Salutations to Lord Ganesha. Of this Śrī Rāma Rakṣā Stotram mantra, Budha Kauśika is the Rishi (seer). Śrī Sītā Rāmacandra is the presiding deity. Anuṣṭup is the meter. Sītā is the Śakti (power). Śrīmad Hanumān is the Kīlaka (pivot). For the pleasure of Śrī Rāmacandra, this recitation of Rāma Rakṣā Stotram is performed. Now, Dhyānam (Meditation): I meditate on Rāmacandra, whose arms extend to His knees, who holds a bow and arrow, who is seated in the lotus posture, who wears yellow garments, whose eyes rival the fresh lotus petals, who is the Lord. Whose gaze is fixed on the lotus-like face of Sītā seated on His left lap, who is dark like a cloud, who shines with various ornaments, and who is adorned with a large crown of matted hair. || 1 || The story of Raghunātha is expanded in a hundred crores (of verses). Each and every syllable destroys the greatest sins of men. || 2 || Having meditated upon Rāma, dark like a blue lotus, with lotus eyes, accompanied by Jānakī (Sītā) and Lakṣmaṇa, adorned with a crown of matted hair, || 3 || Holding a sword, quiver, bow, and arrow in His hands, the destroyer of night-wanderers (demons), the unborn, the omnipresent, who manifested by His own sport to protect the world. || 4 || The wise person should recite this Rāma Rakṣā (protection), which destroys sins and fulfills all desires. May Rāghava protect my head, may the son of Daśaratha protect my forehead. || 5 || May the son of Kausalyā protect my eyes, may the beloved of Viśvāmitra protect my ears. May the protector of sacrifices protect my nose, may the beloved of Sumitrā's son (Lakṣmaṇa) protect my mouth. || 6 || May the treasure of knowledge protect my tongue, may He who is worshipped by Bharata protect my throat. May He who holds divine weapons protect my shoulders, may He who broke Śiva's bow protect my arms. || 7 || May the husband of Sītā protect my hands, may He who conquered Jamadagni's son (Paraśurāma) protect my heart. May the destroyer of Khara protect my middle, may He who is the refuge of Jāmbavān protect my navel. || 8 || May the Lord of Sugrīva protect my waist, may the Lord of Hanumān protect my thighs. May the best of the Raghu dynasty protect my upper thighs, may the destroyer of the Rākṣasa clan protect my lower thighs. || 9 || May the builder of the bridge protect my knees, may the destroyer of the ten-headed (Rāvaṇa) protect my shanks. May the bestower of wealth to Vibhīṣaṇa protect my feet, may Rāma protect my entire body. || 10 || Whoever, being virtuous, recites this protection endowed with the strength of Rāma, he becomes long-lived, happy, blessed with sons, victorious, and humble. || 11 || Those who wander in Pātāla (netherworld), Bhūloka (earth), or Vyoma (sky), or those who move about in disguise, they are not even able to see those who are protected by the names of Rāma. || 12 || By remembering 'Rāma', 'Rāmabhadra', or 'Rāmacandra', a person is not tainted by sins and attains enjoyment (Bhukti) and liberation (Mukti). || 13 || Protected by the name of Rāma, which is the sole mantra for conquering the world, for him who wears it around his neck, all siddhis (supernatural powers) are within his grasp. || 14 || Whoever remembers this Rāma Kavaca (armor), named Vajra Pañjara (adamantine cage), he attains victory and auspiciousness everywhere, with his commands unobstructed. || 15 || As Hara (Śiva) commanded this Rāma Rakṣā in a dream, so did Budha Kauśika write it down, after waking up in the morning. || 16 || Rāma is a pleasure garden of wish-fulfilling trees, the cessation of all calamities, the delight of the three worlds; that glorious Rāma is our Lord. || 17 || Young, endowed with beauty, delicate yet immensely powerful, with large lotus-like eyes, wearing garments of bark and deerskin. || 18 || Subsisting on fruits and roots, self-controlled, ascetics, celibates, these two sons of Daśaratha are brothers, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa. || 19 || The refuge of all beings, the best among all archers, the destroyers of the Rākṣasa clan—may those best of the Raghu dynasty protect us. || 20 || With bows strung and arrows ready, with quivers full of swift arrows, may Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa always go before me on the path for my protection. || 21 || Ready, armored, with sword, bow, and arrow, youthful, may Rāma, along with Lakṣmaṇa, always protect me by going before me. || 22 || Salutations to Rāma, to Rāmabhadra, to Rāmacandra, the creator, to Raghunātha, the Lord, the husband of Sītā. || 23 || O beautiful-faced one, by chanting 'Rāma Rāma' and delighting in 'Rāma', the enchanting one, the name of Rāma is equivalent to a thousand names (of Viṣṇu). || 24 || I bow to Rāma, the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa, the best of the Raghus, the husband of Sītā, the beautiful one, the descendant of Kakutstha, the ocean of compassion, the abode of virtues, dear to Brahmins, the righteous one, the king of kings, true to his word, the son of Daśaratha, dark-complexioned, the embodiment of peace, the delight of the worlds, the ornament of the Raghu dynasty, Rāghava, the enemy of Rāvaṇa. || 25 || Salutations to Rāma, to Rāmabhadra, to Rāmacandra, the creator, to Raghunātha, the Lord, the husband of Sītā. || 26 || Śrī Rāma, Rāma, O delight of the Raghus, Rāma, Rāma, Śrī Rāma, Rāma, O elder brother of Bharata, Rāma, Rāma. Śrī Rāma, Rāma, O fierce in battle, Rāma, Rāma, Śrī Rāma, Rāma, be my refuge, Rāma, Rāma. || 27 || I remember the feet of Śrī Rāmacandra with my mind, I praise the feet of Śrī Rāmacandra with my words. I bow my head to the feet of Śrī Rāmacandra, I take refuge in the feet of Śrī Rāmacandra. || 28 || Rāma is my mother, Rāmacandra is my father, Rāma is my master, Rāmacandra is my friend. Rāmacandra, the compassionate one, is my everything; I know no other, I truly know no other, no other. || 29 || He who has Lakṣmaṇa on his right and the daughter of Janaka (Sītā) on his left, and Māruti (Hanumān) in front—to that delight of the Raghus, I bow. || 30 || The delight of the worlds, the brave in the battlefield, the lotus-eyed, the Lord of the Raghu dynasty. The embodiment of compassion, the giver of mercy, to that Śrī Rāmacandra, I take refuge. || 31 || Swift as thought, with speed equal to the wind, conqueror of senses, foremost among the intelligent. Son of the wind-god, chief among the monkey host, to that messenger of Śrī Rāma, I take refuge. || 32 || Chirping 'Rāma Rāma' sweetly with melodious syllables, having ascended the branch of poetry, I bow to Vālmīki, the cuckoo. || 33 || The remover of calamities, the bestower of all wealth, the delight of the worlds, Śrī Rāma—again and again, I bow to Him. || 34 || Burning the seeds of worldly existence, accumulating happiness and prosperity, terrifying the messengers of Yama—such is the roar of 'Rāma Rāma'. || 35 || May Rāma, the jewel among kings, always be victorious. I worship Rāma, the Lord of Lakṣmī. The army of night-wanderers was struck down by Rāma. Salutations to that Rāma. There is no higher refuge than Rāma. I am a servant of Rāma. May my mind always be absorbed in Rāma. O Rāma, deliver me! || 36 || O beautiful-faced one, by chanting 'Rāma Rāma' and delighting in 'Rāma', the enchanting one, the name of Rāma is equivalent to a thousand names (of Viṣṇu). || 37 || Thus concludes the Śrī Rāma Rakṣā Stotram composed by Budha Kauśika.
